CCR Questions
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
The gum provided an opportunity to express love and friendship. In times today, people are often rude to each other for no apparent reason. It challenged conventions because a stranger acted in a way that was unexpected. We do not normally feel something by gum commercials, the product showed a way to talk about a bigger topic, which was kindness and love.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our product engages with the audience by making them feel something. EXTRA Gum is such a common product and many different types of audiences are familiar with it. The commercial could encourage people to use the gum wrappers in a new way. The commercial could be played before a movie or even during a YouTube video, because it appeals to a wide group of people.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Before starting this project I had some editing experience but never something as challenging. I had some difficulties to overcome with computer issues but I figured it out as I went along. I also learned how to film for the first time. It was challenging at first, but me and my group members got the hang of it relatively quickly. We learned what angles looked best and what was the best way to set up shots.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
We used an iPhone to film the videos. Originally we planned to use a computer to edit, using the editing platform Shotcut. But once we started to edit the videos were taking too long to download so we switched and used iMovie on our phones. This proved to be a lot easier and more efficient. The main thing we did to the videos was cut them down. We clipped the beginning and ends of the videos that were unnecessary.
