CCR Questions

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? The gum provided an opportunity to express love and friendship. In times today, people are often rude to each other for no apparent reason. It challenged conventions because a stranger acted in a way that was unexpected. We do not normally feel something by gum commercials, the product showed a way to talk about a bigger topic, which was kindness and love. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? Our product engages with the audience by making them feel something. EXTRA Gum is such a common product and many different types of audiences are familiar with it. The commercial could encourage people to use the gum wrappers in a new way. The commercial could be played before a movie or even during a YouTube video, because it appeals to a wide group of people. 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Befo

Commercial Blog

This is our final commercial. Two days of filming and two more days of editing went into making it. I think our biggest struggle was picking out the music for the video. Editing came mostly easy. Filming went well too and I think we worked well together as a group. I would definitely work with these same people for our next project. My favorite part of filming was having to spill the juice on myself. Although sticky, I enjoyed it. This was a super fun project to do. I really look forward to filming our next one.

The Final Edit

Once we started to edit, my computer was not working. So I switched over to my phone. I had to completely restart but it was worth it. Editing on the phone was a lot quicker. I trimmed down the videos again and put them together. Since the videos were already on my phone I did not have to take time to send them to myself. Once I put all the videos together it was about 1 minute long. After my first round of trimming. I ending up with 36 seconds. I cut some more and then I had 30. We then needed to add music. I looked for some music that the editing platform I used gives you. After trying some out, we thought that it didn't sound very good. Once we did find the song we liked we had to add it to our video. I suggested we did a voice over and just put another group members phone up to mine and record it. So we went outside and did it. After that I got a picture of our EXTRA slogan, which was "give extra, get extra". We voice recorded that too. I then saved the video to my c

Editing: Computer Troubles

I was in charge of editing. I first had to send the videos from my phone to my computer. This took a very long time to do and it slowed down our editing. I had to start editing in a little bit of a weird order because not all of the videos were coming through. My first step when I got the video onto my computer was downloading it and uploading it to my editing software. I then would trim parts of the video that were not needed. We wanted to make sure we fit into the time frame, so we had to cut a good amount of stuff out, not major scenes just little parts. As more of the videos came through, it became a little harder to edit. Since I did it a little out of order, when the rest of the videos came through, I got mixed up. So I just decided to restart because I remembered most of the editing I did. Then I could restart in the correct order. Once doing this it became a lot easier. I had to keep watching how long it was. I had to make sure to mute all the clips. My computer also takes a f

Filming While Wet

Today we filmed our last couple of scenes again. I just had to bring my whit shirt used in the previous video. I also wore the same pants so it would not be confusing if their was a change in clothing. The first scene we filmed was when Maria ran up to be and gave me the heart. I looked around for a place to film it, because we wanted a change in scenery. So we decided on a hallway nearby. I also brought the gum. I tried to make one of the wrapper hearts but I failed, and Maria had to do it. I had the idea to do a point of view shot for when I opened up the wrapper heart.  Originally we forgot and had to refilm it. It took us a couple tries to get this angle. This was my favorite scene to film. My group member had to wrap their arms around me to make it look like my point of view. I smelled like juice the entire time filming this. Filming went well and we were done pretty quickly. The videos were filmed on another members phone so I sent the videos to myself. With our extra time, I lo
